Ben Bell, executive producer dari the sims 3 ngasi beberapa detil baru yang sayang buat dilewatkan the sims mania.
Bell menjelaskan seperti yang sudah diketahui sebelumnya, bahwa lingkungan disekitar the sims dibikin secara open world. Jadi player (the sims) bisa bebas berinteraksi dengan neighbourhood di sekitarnya.

Elders (orang tua). Begitu pula dengan pilhan karakteristik yang unik. Jadi akan sangat menarik jika kita memasukkan dua atau lebih orang yang berbeda sifat satu sam lainnya dalam satu rumah, akan banyak cerita unik yang bakal muncul.

Begitu pula dengan akses untuk ketempat kerja. Dalam trailer dijelaskan salah satu karakter the sims bekerja sebagai politician di city hall. The sims bisa menggunakan akses dari rumah ke tempat kerja dengan mobil, bersepeda ataupun berjalan kaki
Pilihan karir juga bermacam macam dengan berbagai cara untuk mencapai aspirasi tersebut. The sims juga dilengkapi dengan short term dan long term whises, namun player bisa bebas untuk memenuhinya atau mengabaikan aspirasi tersebut..bebas saja
